Nuclear Weapons and a Sustainable Future

David Krieger, President of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation, has published a Briefing Paper for the 2012 Non-Proliferation Treaty PrepCom entitled "Nuclear Weapons and a Sustainable Future." The paper, which was distributed to the delegation of each country that is a part of the Non-Proliferation Treaty, calls for bold action so that negotiations for a Nuclear Weapons Convention may begin.

Six representatives of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation have been in Vienna, Austria, from April 30 - May 11 to observe the NPT proceedings, meet with ambassadors and strategize with NGO representatives from around the world.

Missile Defense: Russia Responds

The Nuclear Age Peace Foundation has received a reply from Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to the Open Letter on missile defense. In his reply, the foreign minister states, "Despite the growing hardship we do not close the door either for continuing the dialogue with the US and NATO on missile defense issues or for a practical cooperation in this field."

He also expressed interest in an idea raised in the letter. Mr. Lavrov said, "We find undoubtedly interesting the idea of the freeze on US/NATO deployment of missile defense facilities until the joint Russian-US assessment of the threats is conducted."
